But I’ll never understand the real reasons for some behaviors.
A supermarket has checkout counters stacked two deep. Come down the right side to use the front counter, down the left side for the back checker.
A worker is breaking up the tile floor at the entrance to one of the back checkers. He is not easy to get around because the lanes are narrow and he has a sheet of cardboard leaned against him to contain the flying bits of broken tile. The back counter has a checker and a box boy standing there doing nothing. Don’t ask why construction was happening during a busy part of the day or why the check out team was not using an unoccupied station.
Before I left I saw a couple of backpackers push their way past the tile breaker (who looked up in astonishment) and checked out as if everything was normal.
Which it was.
