Returning Customer During Lean Times

The local businesses are hurting. Rate of business closure is up. So is the rate of mom and pop businesses opening and usually quickly closing. Fewer tourists, fewer Thais in for the weekend and inflation have taken their bites.

One restaurant owner, when asked about the high vs low season, said this year we had the low season and the no season. I’ve been a regular for breakfast at his place since I came to town. That changed after a bought a gym membership and found the only way I can avoid stomach acid problems is to workout before breakfast. Still go for breakfast, but less often.

Returned after a two week absence for the usual omelet, toast, bacon and coffee. Only time I was served 4 bacon strips instead of 3 and only time offered a coffee refill. Similar treatment happened at two other places where I’d been a regular. Looks like they want to keep the few regulars they have.
