Time Travel

Bookstores in the tourist district have some new English language fiction. Used book stores exist as do free book swaps found at guesthouses and some bars. I swap when I can, buy used when I have to.

That means reading paperbacks that have aged a bit. I like it for the time travel aspect. Remember when an author built suspense while his character searched for a phone booth? How about tossing a newspaper on someone’s desk to startle them with the latest big development in the world? One novel took a paragraph to explain the basics of email. A story published before 9-11 closed with a character saying we won this battle but the war was still to come, stating that future terrorists would blow up stadiums and buildings by truck bombs or crashing airplanes.
