The new ruling party promised a variety of increased expenditures on the poor. One program will distribute 800,000 new iPads to children in Prathom 1, the equivalent of first grade in the US. Editorial writers worry about the lack of any teacher training or guidance from the Ministry of Education on how to incorporate the device into the curriculum. Maybe the program will create a world class Angry Birds team. Maybe most of the iPads will be stolen in the first week.
This editorial from a Bangkok University professor (scroll down to ‘Padding Out Policy’) is my favorite because of the line about his students: "For many students games are plied on these devices at the same time lessons are being taught."
