Between high prices because of import duties and the fakes because of the high prices, Thailand is not a good place to buy consumer electronics.
Back in the film era when the battery died on a camera the meter stopped working. Now everything stops working except the lens cap and the neck strap. My experience with aftermarket batteries purchased here are they cost less than half as much as manufacturer’s genuine battery. Last about half as long too.
The battery for my new Sony Alpha-33 is expensive, as in 2290 bt (~ $76). That’s high enough to make counterfeiting worth while, so I wasn’t surprised to find a site detailing the differences between real and fake. I’d rather carry 1 genuine battery than 2 from the aftermarket, but I’d rather pay for 2 genuine aftermarket batteries than 1 fake.
