Technically it’s a ‘serviced apartment’. Looks more like a big hotel room with a fridge and microwave.
Optimism drove the search for someplace to stay withing the old city. Everyplace I looked at either failed at least one essential comfort criteria or was too expensive because there was no discounted monthly rate. So I ended up about a km outside the old city walls in a building catering to people who winter in Chiang Mai.
It’s a good location. There’s a Thai neighborhood market on the nearby main road with a collection of food stalls 200 m away and a Top’s market (foreigner oriented supermarket) 200 m past that. Songthews are also available on that main road but I expect to rent a motorbike.
They didn’t have many rooms left. The clerk told me that most people make their reservations for the next year during their first stay. Viangabua Mansion’s website
